Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 20- 30/week; some evenings

Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a dynamic team transforming the way needs are met and services are provided to our residents.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Lead Summer Program Assistant with the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC).
The Lead Summer Program Assistant is responsible for the overall day-to-day group programming, discipline, direct supervision and management of Service Learning Camp participants.
This role will also support teen night programming and assistant GYC programming, training and evaluation processes.
This position will begin in May and end at the beginning of August.
Must be able to relate to high school youth (ages 15-18).
This position is ONLY a TEMPORARY Summer Only position.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
Act as a role model to the teens by exemplifying the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship).
Responsible for managing all aspects of the camp program including administrative duties (emergencies, parents, staff, organizing activities, etc.
)
Develop an awareness and familiarity with the individual interests and behaviors of the participants.
Plans, organizes, and implements a daily schedule of activities, both formal and informal including trips, games, and discussions
Responsible for accurate record-keeping and reporting.
Assist with running and supervising teens during Teen Night as the Rec programming.
Assist in the creation of programming and training of the GYC Executive Board.
Partner with community recreation centers on planning and managing middle school programs.
Ability to work individually and within a team setting.
Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
The selected applicant must possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service, have knowledge of safe work practices, ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
The physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to: walking, standing, sitting for extended times, jogging, running and jumping for the purpose of instructing/leading recreation programs, lifting up to 30lbs and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed.
Must be available to work schedule for summer camp and summer teen programming.
The Job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED
Must be 18 years of age by June 1, 2024
Valid Driver's License
Experience working with teens
Prior computer experience using Word and Excel software programs
Current First Aid and CPR certification (“OR” ability to obtain before camp starts)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
Prior experience and ability to facilitate group activities
Prior experience in a camp or mentor setting with youth and/or teens
Prior experience with program planning and/or camp development
Requirements
Other Recruitment Requirements:
Must be available to report to work in mid-May for orientation.
Must be available for the entire camp season.
May apply to participate in a First Aid / CPR class for staff prior to summer season to attain certifications
Must attend all training prior to the start of camp.
