Work Schedule: May-August; approximately 40 hours per week

Parks and Recreation Summer Position Recruitment
The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department is a dynamic team transforming the way needs are met and services are provided to our residents.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Head Summer Day Camp Counselor-Windsor Recreation Center.
The Head Camp Counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, discipline, direct supervision and management of children and staff in the Summer Camp Program.
Must be able to relate to school-age children (ages 5-12), and conduct age-appropriate activities.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
Being a role model to the children by exemplifying the City of Greensboro's Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship);
Responsible for managing all aspects of the summer camp program (emergencies, parents, staff, organizing activities, etc.
);
Develops an awareness and familiarity with the individual interests and behaviors of the children;
Facilitate both formal and informal play activities;
Plans, organizes, and implements a daily schedule of activities including crafts, sports, wellness, games, music, drama, field trips, etc.
;
Provides emergency response as per training when necessary;
Responsible for accurate record-keeping and reporting;
Fields and responds to inquiries for availability, fees, program information, hours, etc.
with appropriate and accurate information;
Assists with set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of program area;
Maintains positive and appropriate relations with children, parents, staff, etc.
;
Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.
;
Provides exceptional customer service;
Be enthusiastic and make the center a safe and fun place for the community.
The selected applicant must possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service, have knowledge of safe work practices, ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions, and have the ability to be trained in RecTrac (recreational software).
The physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to: walking, standing, sitting for extended times, jogging, running, and jumping to instruct/leading recreation programs, lifting up to 30lbs and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed.
Must work as scheduled from May through August and have reliable transportation.
The Job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Driver's License
Prior experience working with school-aged children
Prior experience working in a summer camp setting
Prior computer experience using Word and Excel software programs
Must be at least 18 years of age by June 1, 2024
Must be willing to get in the pool with campers on swim days
Current First Aid and CPR certification (“OR” ability to obtain before camp starts)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
Associate’s or Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field
Prior experience with recreation management software
Bilingual

Other Recruitment Criteria:
Must be available to report to work in Mid-May for orientation
Must be available for the entire camp
May apply to participate in a First Aid / CPR class for staff prior to summer season to attain certifications
Must attend all trainings prior to the start of camp
