Position Description & Job Summary:
Summer Science Camp Instructor, Part-Time
The Greensboro Science Center is looking for creative, energetic individuals who can share their science enthusiasm to teach hands-on, minds-on science camps for children ages 4 through 12 in general sciences and ages 5 through 12 in robotics.
Instructors are responsible for developing and presenting science related, age-appropriate activities based on camp descriptions and outlines.
Minimum requirements are a two year-degree, preferably a four-year degree, ideally in education or science, and prior experience working in an instructional capacity (classroom or informal).
The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion and aptitude for teaching, have a strong interest in science, be adept at creating imaginative science learning opportunities, and enjoy working closely with children.
Candidates should also be well-organized and have a positive, outgoing demeanor.
The hourly rate is $15.
00/hour.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Develop creative and engaging camp lessons and activities.
Teach two or more weeks of camp.
Maintain excellent communication with and work with GSC staff members and volunteers.
Positively interact with children and adults of all ages and abilities in a variety of settings.
Maintain a safe and organized working and learning environment.
Maintain education program supplies and materials.
Dress appropriately for the day’s activities and adhere to the GSC dress code.
Respond to emergency situations in a safe and appropriate manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Greensboro Science Center.
Position Criteria
Ideal candidates will be licensed and currently teaching or have experience in developing informal science education programming.
Possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.
Required to walk, sit and stand for extended periods of time.
Be able to climb stairs, lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds.
Safely and comfortably navigate uneven surfaces including gravel, grass, hills, and stairs.
Ability to work outdoors for various lengths of time under a variety of conditions including hot temperatures and high humidity.
Schedule
Hours for this position range greatly based on schedules and interest, 25-35 hours/week based on camps that are contracted.
Summer 2024 camp dates are June 10 - August 9.
Camp times vary depending on camper ages.
