JOB SUMMARY: Must recognize and emphasize that effective security is a preventive program.
It is the prevention of those hazards that can injure or cause loss of life or property.
The bottom line is keeping problems off the property, always remembering that our area-of-interest and operation begins and ends at property boundaries.
The preventive nature of the Security program applies when we consider safety in the Community.
If a place is secure, it is also safe; conversely, if it is safe, it is very likely to be secure.
These two factors, Safety and Security go hand in hand.
The Security Officer must always act and conduct oneself in a professional manner.

Be productive by making maximum use of your time, and be firm when necessary.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform patrols on foot and in Security vehicle covering entire campus.
Vary rounds/patrols, so that regular absences cannot be predicted by persons with criminal intent.
Check all areas to include Apartments, Garden Homes, Maintenance, Health Care, Administrative Offices, Wellness Center, and Dining venues, all common areas.
Responds to alarms and emergencies and assists healthcare professionals with all routine requests in order to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Records daily activities and accurately reports events to maintain a record of departmental activities.
Assist Residents and visitors with various needs such as, carrying packages, assistance with wheelchairs or scooters, or assistance in their homes.
Remain on duty until relieved by the next shift.
Perform duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, and to assist with various tasks, including but not limited to, the distribution of information to Residents, meal deliveries, minor general maintenance, and special projects.
Keep accurate records in daily journal and vehicle logs.
Initiate maintenance requests on safety related problems.
Be flexible in order to work unscheduled hours when necessary.
When confronted with questionable situations not covered by existing Community policies or verbal instructions, consult with, if possible, the Maintenance Supervisor, Manager on Duty, Director of Facility Services, or Executive Director.
Keep Management staff on duty informed of activities and any problems or incidents as they occur.
Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications, and to respond to various emergency situations such as; illness, fire, and/or other natural disasters.
Assist Residents into and out of vehicles as needed.
Create and maintain the highest standards of Security at all times, by being thoroughly professional in appearance, attitude, and application.
Perform other related duties as directed by Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Facility Services.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAITS: High School Graduate or GED equivalent Possess a valid NC driver’s License and clean driving record Be at least 21 years of age Ability to work all Department shifts, including weekends Ability to evaluate a given situation and make sound decisions Possess good communication and public relations skills PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAITS: Minimum of six months experience in security, military, law enforcement, firefighting or EMS Any offer of employment is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check, drug screen and verification of employment and credentials.
